@Isaacnibblets Its accounted for by the fact that the private insurance business in the US costs a fortune to run and maintain before the customer can get near a Dr. Which of course the NHS does not have to pay for

Can anyone tell me how the USA spends a greater percentage of GDP on healthcare than the UK and doesn't have socialised health care? Where does all that extra spending go? It doesn't add up.

GENOCIDE ..."A study in the American Journal of Public Health shows that in the United States nearly 45,000 DEATHS annually can be linked to a LACK of health insurance. That's over 120 preventable DEATHS every day."--The Capital Times (Wisconsin), 11/22/10... that's what corporate greed means: GENOCIDE. Even someone with cousins for parents can grasp this most simple concept. If you're denied health care when you need it, YOU DIE, period.

"Health care is a public good, NOT a commodity. Gaps in the health care system should be eliminated so all communities, rich & poor, have access to comprehensive, quality treatment & services. Publicly financed & administered health care should be expanded as the strongest vehicle for making health care accessible & accountable."--Amnesty International... "The British Medical Association said a majority of Britain's doctors have consistently supported public provision of healthcare. A spokeswoman said the association's 140,000 members were sceptical about the U.S. approach to medicine: 'Doctors and the public here are appalled that there are so many people on the US who don't have proper access to healthcare. It's something we would find very, very shocking.'"--The Guardian (UK), August 11, 2009

MYTH: There are long waits for care, which compromise access to care.REALITY: There are NO waits for urgent or primary care in Canada. There are reasonable waits for most specialists' care ... Despite such waits, however, it is noteworthy that Canada boasts lower incident and mortality rates than the U.S. for all cancers combined, according to the U.S. Cancer Statistics Working Group."--Rhonda Hackett, clinical psychologist, The Denver Post, 6/07/09

"All players in the health care system, whether public or private, have Human rights obligations, and must be accountable to the people. The U.S. government is ultimately responsible for ensuring that both public agencies and private companies make health care decisions based on health needs, NOT on profit margins."--Amnesty International... "The truth is that every other modern country in the world has long ago figured out that you can't have cost-effective, universal health care unless the government is the paymaster, with prices set by the government. The truth too is that NO country that has moved to such a single-payer system has later rejected it--a good indication that the people of these countries are satisfied with the results."--Dave Lindorff, the author of Marketplace Medicine, March 1st, 2009
