My Design Methodology professor asked us last month, "If an elephant paints a picture, is it art". We all answered no, he doesn't know what he's doing, therefor not intentional and with meaning, therefor not art. I've been proven sorely wrong. I have lost the game.

@inspirationzinc Because god forbid we ever accept maybe we aren't the only Sentient creatures on the planet. Some day, An elephant is just gonna be like "Listen, Vote for a real Elephant for president, Ill show you mother fuckers how its done" And everyone will laugh and think "Thats a neat trick" and the elephant will kill us all.

This isn't fake, but neither is it real, at least not in the sense that the elephant "creates" the painting using mental abstraction (as humans do). The animal has simply been trained to follow commands and replicate pre-taught movements with a brush. Watch the video again closely and one can see the trainerphysically directing the elephant what movements to make. The elephant is thus acting out a perceptual command, as opposed to creatively conceptualising (and understanding) what it paints.
