It's not a " he " hyena, it's probably a " she " . They, like elephants, have a matriarch who calls the shots and maintains order. Many savvy male lions become specialized hyena killing specialists. He " bushwacks " her, and causes chaos in the Hyena tribe for a couple of weeks, so the lion cubs and randoms are safer. Same concept with the terrorists cutting off people's heads- to try and strike fear into the " man-ginas " of our society, including the politicians. ( Why'd I say that ? ) : )
