An unsolved murder at Portland's infamous Paranoid Park brings detectives to a local high school, propelling a young skater into a moral odyssey where he must not only deal with the pain and disconnect of adolescence but the consequences of his own actions. As director of "My Own Private Idaho", "Good Will Hunting", "To Die For" and "Elephant", Gus Van Sant has created some of the most memorable films about youth ever committed to film. At the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, he was awarded the 60th Anniversary Prize for "Paranoid Park" which is largely considered one of his finest films. Based on the novel by Blake Nelson & photographed by the incomparable Christopher Doyle ("In the Mood for Love"; "2046"), the film has captivated audiences worldwide, becoming a unanimous standout at the Cannes, New York and Toronto Film Festivals.

@ImminentDeparture I have to agree with you. Mostly, though, I wanted to point out that your comment reminded me of how people seem to compare Larry Clark and Gus Van Sant a lot.

VAN SANT - you continuity is screwed up when hes at the beach writing in his notebook. He leaves with the notebook in his right hand. Then when you show him leaving down the long path NO NOTEBOOK. Then he walks into his house and SURPRISE has the notebook again. Your Slippin on that one Van Sant.

this movie would have been real good if they didnt have stupid parts like alex walking down the hallway in super slow motion and it takes up what seems like 20 minutes of the movie. and another part where they are driving but all you see is alex's friend in super slow motion for like 20 minutes again. there were probably some other parts in the movie that where like that but those parts just seemed uncalled for and annoying

@ParanoidAndroid9911: I get that this is supposed to be a "raw" movie, but come on, the story line is lazy and it's the seemingly small things like at the beginning of this trailer where he's writing in his dairy. You can clearly see he isn't writing. Of course in movies they don't really "write", but in other movies they actually make an attempt to appear to be doing so. You guys want a "raw" teenage movie? Watch Larry Clark's "Bully". Now there's one for you.

@GiantDagger2 It is (in the surface) about the movie, But deeper as an allegory (only slightly deeper) is about Van Sants experience as a youth when he "came out of the closet" There are many scenarios in the movie that are subtle allegories to how it is like to be gay in youth. If you look at Van Sants filmography, he does this ofthen with almost all his movies and it is always about being gay. I don't have anything against it, Gays are cool is just interesting like in Inception.

@MsBickle76 Wait, so you are saying that Alex (The main character) was gay? So the whole plot is not really about the killing, but about being gay?
