Tablets, I hope, will be used in the future as the Padd's used in Star Trek TNG, cheap items with good software that people pass between them and that can be kept in a small pile on the induction pad equipped sideboard in the living room to be used as needed. "Dad, I've found one of the datapad's down the back of the sofa again...."

@AaronBesson The iPad has indeed helped technology along. However, as for competition as the current flurry of patent lawsuits proves... its going to be a messy business. These patent disputes and big companies like apple being litigious could stifle innovation expecially in smaller companies. Don't ask me what the solution is however. Without patents, companies would not spend the money on R&D like they do.
