@sniper00342 - well, it's a bit early for the Iraq song - but there's a lot of connection between what happened in Viet Nam and what happened in Iraq. Maybe - because my career started in one era, and ended in the other - I can see it. But...I stood in Southeast Asian Jungles as a new troop, and I boarded a Freedom Bird in Kuwait to come home and retire...so...not many walked THAT road.

@sniper00342 I can understand that, but I guess for me, I'm a child of a Vietnam veteran and for me, no matter who sings the song it will always have a message, and the last bit, with John Shueman really cemented that he endorsed this version, he liked it, and also that living Vietnam vets also supported this version by being in the clip. As with most covers, this will never be like the original, but if it means that a new generation appreciate the song, then thats ok to me.

Not what I'm used to listen, and I love the original song but... I like this cover! :O

@Leesidge everything was perfect in the first one there is no need to bring it up to new generation standards if they were to do anything like that shouldn't they base that on more of a modern conflict? hip hop music about the war in vietnam doesn't fit. its like listening to classical music and hearing rap it doesn't fit. Redgum had it perfect with the tone of the song. you cant kill the mood of the song and what point is reaches out it doesn't pull at your heart you feel little to nothing

It sounds weird how it scitters between the rap beat and the original beat,

@sniper00342 its a shame that you can't see past your anger. The original artists - John Shuman supported The Herd with this. They liked this cover as do so many of us...and I agree with another poster, its important to bring this song to a new generation that have never heard it before..

@sniper00342 I lol at people who actually allow themselves to get so worked up and angry that someones rendition of a song quite literally "destroys" it for them. It is such a decleration of narrow mindedness and an inability to percieve otheris visons. No imagion. Have fun saotaging your own music taste.

ill stick with redgum. this version is fucking shit. it takes the fucking heart out of the song as told by a real experience. you cant just take that and make that into hiphop there is no heart in this. it dosent shake your heart and mind to think of what pain was felt you feel nothing towards this song because you cant feel anything if i met these fuckwhits i would smash them for ruining song.
