I tried this the at the driving range the other day. 9/10 times I completely missed the ball and when I did connect it would hook 25 meters and not even go as far as my standard drive. Plus everyone stares at you disapprovingly.

Whenever i go to a driving range i do the happy gilmore, it actually works really well. Except for the one time my friend tried it and let go of his club :P
